Food Paintings - Edible Landscapes by Carl Warner

Food Paintings - Edible Landscapes by Carl Warner

The essence of any creativity is to create beauty from the ordinary. Surreal landscapes from the famous English photographer and artist Karl Warner shocked the whole world. When creating your worksecond uses the most common products, and these are not only fruits and vegetables, but also sweets, cereals, bread, meat and even fresh fish. This modern genre of photography art is called "Foodscape".

The main goal of the artist was to attract the attention of children and instill in them love for proper and healthy nutrition. His works look incredibly realistic and very fabulous, which causes only positive emotions and delight. See for yourself.

Gallery of works

Unusual composition "Chinese junk". The birth of this photograph is associated with a feeling of longing that lives in the soul of the master. It used exactly those ingredients that will create associations with the "golden age" of Chinese culture. The sea is made from Beijing cabbage leaves, green shores are made from Savoy cabbage. The ship and goods on the pier imitate various herbs, seeds and spices.

Landscape "Cart and balloons". The abundance of fruits, vegetables and berries is a real paradise for a vegetarian. Farm fields of asparagus, zucchini, beans, cabbage leaves and corn kernels. Tree-shaped broccoli blossoms, potato stones, a bread cart filled with berries and flying balls of onions, garlic, bananas, strawberries, pears and other fruits create a fabulous picture.

This photo is called "Cowboy Valley". In search of inspiration, the author goes to places where he has never been to look for new images using combinations of new products. Meat knuckles as rocks, pickles as green spaces, and tortillas with bread sticks make up the bulk of the picture.

Amazing "Coral Island" and extraordinary "Crab Cave". Elements of paintings from pineapples, durian, kumquat, melon, Chinese cucumbers, passion fruit, mango, lime and other exotic fruits create a bright and rich sea world. And the bottom of the small oceans is covered with rice, wheat, couscous and various varieties of cabbage.

Fairy-tale composition "Garlic village". One of the artist's first works. Cute garlic houses, seeded onion blossom trees and cabbage banks inspire you to be more creative in the kitchen.

Photo "Cucumber Bridge". The freshness of forest greenery and a grainy waterfall will set the child to try such beauty, and at the same time get a portion of useful vitamins.

Composition "Cabbage Sea". Rough waters of red cabbage, carrying a boat of squash, green beans, peas, olives and asparagus to the pier. The purpose of the work is to promote a healthy diet.

But in front of you is "Bread Village" and "Coconut Haystacks". These cute paintings for the soul cheer up and develop fantasy and imagination.

"Candy house" for the sweet tooth. Looking at this photo, it's hard to resist the desire to grab a colorful caramel tree, or at least a small pebble from the lawn. This "sweet image" is featured on the cover of the author's second book, World of Food.

Popular "Forest Valley". A very picturesque place - grain mountains, broccoli trees and cauliflower clouds. This "green" landscape was created especially for the Finnish food concern Valio.

Miniature "London skyline". Tower Bridge, St Paul's Cathedral and the London Eye now look more palatable. Zucchini, asparagus, rhubarb, beans, pod vanilla, watermelon rinds, and even mackerel did the trick.

Colorful composition "Tuscan market". Cheese houses, pasta boxes and baskets overflowing with vitamins - Italy in all its glory.

And these meat photos are called "Mountains of Salami", "Salami of Tuscany" and "River of Salami". Landscapes created for the Italian company Negroni surprise with the fine work of the master and the abundance of various types of meat and sausages.

Photos of Celery Island and Stilton Cottage. Again, the promotion of proper nutrition. An abundance of greenery in incredible landscapes is an easy way to convince a picky child to eat celery or lettuce.

This is the hardest job "Fish landscape. Here you can find many representatives of the underwater world - oysters and lobsters, mussels, shellfish, as well as mackerel, salmon and a lot of herring and perch. The customer is Findus, a Swedish frozen food company.

Miniature "Pumpkin Paradise" does not scare children at all. She ignites genuine interest and smiles on the faces of young viewers.

Two more interesting works are "Mount Fuji" and "Floating on the Amazon". A considerable amount of products were used to create these scenes, which makes them want to be carefully examined.

And here is a composition that is not at all melancholy "Autumn Flakes". Golden leaves from crushed cereals and a stone wall lined with nuts - a very "warm" picture.

We invite you to plunge into the extraordinary world of Karl Warner, which presents not only bright and amazing landscapes, but also original still lifes, which, perhaps, will contribute to the creation of such beauty in your kitchen.

Briefly about the author

Carl Warner was born in the English town of Liverpool on July 10, 1963. Even in childhood, his artistic talent was noticeable. As soon as he was alone with himself, he began to draw the inner worlds of his imagination. He was inspired by the paintings of such famous authors as Salvador Dali, Patrick Woodroof and Roger Dean.

In search of himself, the master began his journey at an art school, from where he left a year later. Because of his great love for photography, he immediately began to master the desired specialty in another college. And after three years of successful study, he becomes a professional in his field. His career begins in advertising, as a still life and landscape painter, but little by little he tries to shoot with people. After that, he opens his own studio and successfully works as an advertising photographer.

New perspectives opened up to Warner in the late 90s, when he realized that his creations had become less popular. Walking through the food market, portobello mushrooms caught his attention, which looked like miniature trees from some fairy tale land. They then became the material for his first composition "Mushroom Savannah". This period was inspiring for him.

In January 2008, this work was published in the weekly print edition "The Sunday Times" and attracted the attention of most of the media. Thanks to numerous interviews, TV reports, documentaries and especially photographs of his new works spread across the net.The talent of the author was appreciated by the whole world.

Such popularity gave Warner the opportunity to work with the largest food companies. Soon the photographer begins to shoot videos for TV and Internet advertising.

In 2010, he publishes his first book entitled Delicious Landscapes by Carl Warner. It contains many of his works, for each illustration followed by an essay on the creative process with initial sketches and a final photo session. In addition, a list is provided ingredients used to create paintings.

In 2012, another book is published - "The World of Food", which is aimed at young readers. It demonstrates the author's new works and each of them is accompanied by a poem describing the picture.

Interesting moments of the creative process

  • All Warner's "edible" paintings are formed from several layers, since the birth of one landscape takes several days of hard work, during which many elements quickly die in hot studio lighting.
  • Most of the artist's paintings begin with a sketch, thanks to which he determines exactly what ingredients he will need. Then comes the construction of the scene and photographing the final result.
  • When creating complex compositions, food stylists help Carl.
  • The average cost of an author's painting is several hundred dollars, but it can vary depending on the size of the work and the price of exotic products.
  • Carl Warner is a big fan of Italian cuisine, the main ingredients of which make up the majority of his landscapes.
  • Products that did not pass the “casting” and remained fresh after the shooting are eaten by members of the entire working team. But there is even more waste, because when creating complex landscapes, many ingredients have to be glued together.
